I have always wanted a restaurant of my own. I have been in the business for 26 years. I had been working for Dick Clark American Bandstand Restaurants, Inc., most recently as the Area Director of Operations. I had worked for the American Bandstand Grills for over 8 years, when I saw that this place was for sale. So I jumped on it! My life has not been the same since. It has been a staple in the downtown area for over 50 years. Phil Roberts, my father, is a pipe fitter by trade, but had always thought he could be a great entrepreneur. You will find any or all of us in the restaurant at all times, talking to guests, working with the cooks to create perfect food, or bussing tables. We have been adopted by our new family of employees and guests, and are really enjoying or new business adventure. We hope that your experience with us is very memorable as well as satisfying. We are here to serve you quality food at reasonable prices, and to take care of your every need while you are dining with us.

The name came about as I was touring the restaurant with the previous owners. When we were talking to them, we realized that a lot of the guests were people that had lived in the area since they were children. These were going to be our new "neighbors" There were a lot of business owners that came in to have breakfast before opening their businesses for the day. There were other guests that just came in to be with their friends, talking over old times. A lot of people considered this place their second home. So when we thought of all that, the name seemed to fit. Therefore, NEIGHBOR'S CAFÉ was a perfect fit to this local restaurant we were about to call home.

Buying a restaurant is a very exciting thing as well as challenging. The staff at NEIGHBOR'S CAFÉ is some of the best in the city. Some of them have been here for over 20 years. They know the customers by name, know their families, and know how they like their eggs cooked. They have made our new adventure a very smooth transition. They are some of the friendliest, caring, hardest working employees you will ever find. A lot of them have grown up here in the restaurant. Starting out bussing tables at 10 years old, then moving up to waiting tables.

NEIGHBOR'S CAFÉ is a warm and neighborly place to eat or visit. We offer quite an extensive menu for a local restaurant. All of our items are made from scratch in our kitchen. There is a very large staff that puts their heart and sole into everything they do. We serve over 16,000 homemade cinnamon rolls, 9,000 biscuits and 7,000 dinner rolls every week! One of our biggest accomplishments since taking over is changing our pies to 100% made from scratch. Our two bakers, Deena and Vicky, have really outdone themselves on coming up with quality recipes for the pies. We have over 60 different pies we make and most of them we also make sugar-free as well. We sell whole pies as well with a 24 hour notice.

We have 45 employees that work here, which seems to be a lot for a local restaurant, but we need them all. Most of them are full time, with this being their only job, so they are dedicated to bring you the best service they possibly can.

One of the coolest features of the décor was the old newspapers that are on the walls. There are original copies of some of the biggest news stories that have changed the world. Classes in local schools have come out to take tours of the restaurant and to do school reports about all these papers. You can find the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Truman defeated by Dewey, Hyatt Skywalks Collapse, Hitler Dies, Kennedy Shot, Lindenbergh Crosses the Atlantic, Apollo going to the Moon, Challenger Explodes, and the newest to be added, Sept. 11th World Trade Center Attacks. They have been preserved to last for years to come.

In November, 2002, we added a new location to our family in downtown Pleasant Hill. It is the former spot of B&M Cafe. We hope you join us there. We serve the same quality food with "neighborly" service as the one in Lee's Summit. We hope you come see us there as well.

We welcome you to our home, and hope you have a perfect visit with us. The staff of NEIGHBOR'S CAFÉ are here to make sure all your needs are exceeded every visit, every time. If it is not, we expect to hear from you, this is the way we will grow to be the best there can be.

Sincerely,
Don Roberts
